The theory
test comprises of two parts, both of which you must pass in order to obtain
your theory test certificate:
1.
Multiple
Choice Questions
This part of the theory
test comprises of a series of 50 multiple choice questions which cover a wide
aspect of driving. These questions are undertaken on a touch screen monitor and
you require a minimum of 43 out of 50 to pass.
2.
Hazard
Perception
The hazard perception part to the
test assesses your responses to developing hazards through a series of 14 short
videos. Each video has one or more developing hazard to identify and the sooner
it is identified, the greater the marks gained within the test. Each hazard is
marked out of 5 and to pass this part of the test you will require 44 out of
75.
You may
apply to take the theory test at any time, providing you have your provisional licence. After you have completed your theory test, you have 2 years in
which to pass the practical driving test. It is advisable to take a few lessons
and develop a understanding with many driving aspects prior to taking the theory
test, however, in order to apply for the practical driving test, you will need
to have passed the theory test. Alan can give advice to pupils and recommend suitable teaching aids to prepare yourself for the test.
Please note:
You will be required to take both the photo card and paper counterpart sections
of your driving licence to the theory test centre when sitting your theory
test. If you do not have a new photo card style licence, you will also be
required to take your passport along with you.
