The driving test is your
chance to prove to that you are capable to drive safely on the roads. In order
to apply for the practical driving test you must have successfully passed the
theory test.
On the day of your test you
will need to take both the photo card and paper counterpart sections of your
driving licence to the driving test centre. If you do not have a new photo card
style licence, you will also be required to take your passport along with you.
Don't forget, if you require glasses or contact lenses for driving, you will
require them for the driving test!
Before you leave the test
centre car park, you will have to prove you are able to read a new style car
registration plate from a distance of 20m. Following this, there will be two
'show me, tell me' questions (Download a Modern Driving Techniques specific
Question sheet here). Once you have completed these two tasks, the driving part
of the test will begin. Whilst out on the road, you're examiner will ask you to
complete a series of driving tasks and manoeuvres, which you'll have covered in
you're lessons. During your test, you will be examined on your general driving
capability, including the correct use of speed, mirrors and indicators.
To pass the test you must
not exceed 15 minor faults, however, if you make one or more serious or
dangerous fault, you will fail the test. Click here to view a copy of the
Driving Standards Agency's Driving Test Report Explanation Sheet listing the
items assessed in the Practical Driving Test. Note: Items 8, 9 and 10 do not
apply to the standard driving test.
Although some driving
schools will put pupils in for the test early to practise, this approach is not
used by Modern Driving Techniques. Instead, all test routes, manoeuvres and
exercises will be taught and regularly assessed within the safe learning
environment.
